New Standard in Leg Protection | The Flexion by Legacy!

Introducing the all new Flexion by Legacy!  Classic Equine is setting new standards in leg support with the ultimate in flexible protection.

The Flexion by Legacy begins with the iconic and trusted Legacy sport boot design, but new innovations to its design makes it the leader in its class! Added is a layer of FP 360™ protection that improves the comfort, fit, and support of Classic Equine’s patented cradle fetlock support system.  The Flexion’s FP 360™ cradle support features a hi-tech, thermo formed outer layer of connected cells that individually move to support and protect the lower limb.

As the horse moves, the Flexion automatically adjusts its support in real time to remain connected and supportive even in the most competitive runs and athletic maneuvers. During competitive runs, the lower limbs rotate and flex adjusting to varied speeds and changing ground conditions causing the fetlock to encounter torque and thrust. But even as the fetlock moves, the Flexion provides 360 degree , four-way stretch to ensure the highest level of connectivity, flexible protection, and support.

FP 360™ protection absorbs energy and shock without adding unnecessary weight to the Flexion boot.

Not only does the Flexion’s fetlock support cradle provide lower limb support, its technology helps guard the fetlock from impact concussion injury as well.  FP 360™ dampens the vibration from ground impact helping to absorb energy and shock, but without adding unnecessary weight and bulk. FP 360™ is ultra-light, incredibly soft, and remarkably wear resistant.

The Flexion by Legacy is crafted with a perforated neoprene inner layer that lets heat escape and allows the horse’s leg to breathe. A soft jersey inner layer cleans easily and dries quickly. Bound edges help keep out dirt and debris. A suspensory rib ensures proper boot alignment, and the Flexion’s shock absorbing inner splint pad helps prevent scalping injuries.

What a Muddy Mess! How to Clean your Classic Equine Gear

The Hanging Wash Rack by Classic Equine is a great tool to clean your boots.

“What a Muddy Mess.” – rodeo contestants everywhere.

Over the summer of 2019, many rodeo contestants were confronted with deep, boggy, wet, MUDDY conditions. If you left your house at all this summer, there is a good chance you have ran into some rain along the way. It seems every few years we are blessed with a muddy year of rodeos and equine events, so we decided to write down a few of our tips when competing in less than ideal situations.

First things first, Safety.

One of the best pieces of advice we can give is to learn how to read ground conditions. This tip applies regardless of whether the ground is wet, dry, deep or hard; know what is not safe and know what is best for your horse. If you are not sure how to read the ground or unsure about your decision, do not be afraid to ask a seasoned professional for their opinion. Also note, every person has their own idea of safety so it is ideal to know how your horse stands up in different conditions and to make your decision based on your horse’s abilities.

If you’ve ever competed in muddy conditions, you understand hassle of cleaning your tack in the aftermath of the event. We have some recommendations for you to keep in mind and make this process easier!

When it comes to cinches, try using our Featherflex cinch. The Featherflex has a soft feel for your horse and is very easy to clean after use. Along with that, the Featherflex is antimicrobial and antifungal, reducing chance of girth itch or agitation in damp weather.

Many people struggle with leg protection for their horses in the mud. In most situations, we recommend the Legacy2 or ClassicFit protective boots for optimal protection at jackpots and rodeos. However, another great option in less than desirable conditions is the Airwave ProTech line. It features breathable, lightweight boots with the ProTech outer shell for impact protection with an added bonus of AirWave Technology (this makes the boot perforated with a exterior mesh). By using the ProTech system in the mud, you provide your horse with excellent protection without any additional weight. As a bonus, the ProTech line is extremely easy to clean with a small spray of water. Some mud experts also prefer to use leather splint and skid boots as a great option as well.

Last but not least, be sure to pick up your favorite rain sheet with a neck piece for this rainy rodeo season! Sometimes pens or stalls undercover aren’t an option on the rodeo road so rain sheets keep your favorite pony warm and dry as the rain falls. We recommend the Classic Windbreaker Turn-Out with hood to keep your horse dry. This blanket also fits excellent over your saddle and the neck piece ensures no rain seeps onto your saddle.

Cleaning Your Boots

Not only can running in the mud be a hassle, but then you have the aftermath of cleaning them up! Keeping your boots clean and debris-free not only are more comfortable for your horse, but extend the life of your boots! We recommend cleaning our boots by spraying them with water, removing all dirt and debris from the hook and loop straps, and letting them air drying. We DO NOT recommend washing them with detergents. The chemicals can accelerate the breakdown of the boot material and could also have a reaction to your horse with skin to skin contact. If you really want to improve your boot-cleaning situation, check out our Hanging Wash Rack – a small investment to make your life so much easier!
